چکیده

The neutron direct radiative capture (DRC) process is investigated, highlighting the role of incident p-wave neutrons. A set of calculations is shown for the 12 C(n, γ) process at incoming neutron energies up to 500 keV, a crucial region for astrophysics. The cross section for neutron capture leading to loosely bound s, p and d orbits of 13 C is well reproduced by the DRC model demonstrating the feasibility of using this reaction channel to study the properties of nuclear wave functions on and outside the nuclear surface. A sensitivity analysis of the results on the neutron-nucleus interaction is performed for incident s-as well as p-waves. It turned out that the DRC cross section for p-wave neutrons is insensitive to this interaction, contrary to the case of incident s-wave neutrons.

The evolution of dynamical perturbations is examined in nuclear multifragmentation in the frame of Vlasov equation. Both plane wave and bubble type of perturbations are investigated in the presence of surface (Yukawa) forces. An energy condition is given for the allowed type of instabilities and the time scale of the exponential growth of the instabilities is calculated. The results are compare...

Non-resonant direct p-and d-wave neutron capture by 12 C Abstract Discrete γ-rays from the neutron capture state of 13 C to its low-lying bound states have been measured using pulsed neutrons at E n = 550 keV. The partial capture cross sections have been determined to be 1.7±0.5, 24.2±1.0, 2.0±0.4 and 1.0±0.4 µb for the ground (J π = 1/2 −), first (J π = 1/2 +), second (J π = 3/2 −) and third (...

The narrow peak recently found in various pionic double charge exchange (DCX) cross sections can be explained by the assumption of a universal resonance at 2065 MeV, called d ′. We calculate the mass of a six-quark system with J P = 0 − , T = 0 quantum numbers employing a cluster model and a shell model basis to diagonalize the nonrelativistic quark model Hamiltonian.

We use the Quasiparticle Random Phase Approximation to include the effects of low-lying Gamow-Teller and first forbidden strength in neutrino capture by very neutron-rich nuclei with N = 50, 82, or 126. For electron neutrinos in what is currently considered the most likely r-process site the capture cross sections are two or more times previous estimates. We briefly discuss the reliability of o...

We discuss the results of a systematic calculation of the next-to-next-to-leading-order amplitude for the pp → ppπ 0 S-wave production at the threshold in heavy-baryon chiral perturbation theory. We find six new diagrams, two of which can be viewed as vertex corrections, of 15-20 %, to the π-exchange graph, whereas the rest are much larger, one exceeding 900 %. We discuss the reasons for this e...
